Neuromuscular TherapyNeuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a form of massage therapy that specifically targets trigger points and areas of hyperactivity within muscle, tendons and fascia. Trigger points refer pain and other sensations to distant parts of the body other than where the actual trigger point is located. Treatment consists of deep tissue pressure applied to precise anatomical landmarks and structures with the aim of restoring balanced muscle tone and function. Strain/CounterstrainStrain/Counterstrain (also called Positional Release) is a manual therapy technique that reduces muscle spasm and hypertonicity through precise positioning and nervous system relaxation of the effected muscles. This technique is extremely effective for acute muscle spasm and is very gentle on the client as well. Muscle Energy TechniqueMuscle Energy Technique (MET) seeks to restore proper joint position and muscle function through a contract/relax process. MET is very effective for mobilizing joints, stretching shortened connective tissues and relaxing hypertonic muscles. It is also very gentle on the client. Myofascial ReleaseMyofascial release is the stretching of the fascia and connective tissue through the application of a particular massage stroke. Fascia is a thin, connective tissue that spans the whole body, encasing muscle fibers and other structures. Injuries and poor posture can distort fascia restricting muscle, nerve and vascular function. Massage TherapyMassage therapy releases constricted areas within muscles, tendons and all soft tissues. The benefits include increased blood and lymph flow, local and whole body relaxation and increased joint range of motion. Massage can be beneficial in reducing pain by stimulating and relaxing of the nervous system. Sports massage, a specific form of massage therapy, addresses the needs of the serious athlete. Each sport places particular demands on the body. A typical sports massage session may include all of the therapeutic techniques. PNF Stretching & StrengtheningPNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching uses a contract/relax process for muscle lengthening and treatment of restricted or injured muscles and tendons. Another component of the PNF techniques are spiral and diagonal movements that reeducate dynamic movement and restore muscle function. Both PNF and Muscle Energy Technique work to restore proper muscle function through nervous system activation, facilitation or inhibition. Active Isolated StretchingActive Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a series of dynamic, active stretching protocols that increase range of motion without creating muscle damage or muscle weakness associated with other stretching techniques. Through precise positioning various components of muscle and tendon attachments can be safely and effectively lengthened. The stretch is facilitated with the aid a rope or by the therapist. In the process of stretching each client learns to assess their own range of motion and address their muscle imbalances. AIS is the preferred method of flexibility training for many top athletes and sports teams.
